The Super 400 was the largest "Jazz" archtop guitar of the 1930's (well, actually the Epiphone Emperor was slightly wider but had a different sound) and it's gigantic 18" wide bottom made the strumming of the guitar stand out in a dance or swing band. It really cut through. After all, it's a full inch wider than the L-5.

Both the L-5 and Super 400 are 25.5 scale (there were some made in the 20's and 30's that had the 24.75 scale).
